Scope
Brotherton Library is one of the most prestigious buildings within the University of Leeds. Due to the nature of the building, the original floors had never been sanded and sealed. This high-status project involved sanding preparation of the floor prior to the application of a 4 coat system using 1 coat of Junckers Prelak followed by 3 coats of Junckers HP.
The Flooring Spec
Following years of discussion in relation to the original floor conditions with extreme levels of wear, it became visible that the floors needed rapid attention, so a prompt decision was made by the University of Leeds to have the floors sanded and sealed by MJF Specialist Flooring.
The Solution
MJF carried out some trials using samples to illustrate what the finished floor would look like. Through doing this, we helped to reassure the client that the suggested flooring solution would meet their specified needs and would guarantee the best results.
Due to the prestigious books stored within the library, all work areas had to be well enclosed to ensure minimal dust levels and noise. To facilitate busy periods, the project was broken down into phases and set to run over a two year intermittent programme. Works were only carried out during holidays and weekends to minimise disruption to student studies.

Due to the age and wear of the original parquet floor, this project required our team of experts with over 30 years’ experience to achieve results that were deemed unachievable.
