The Flooring SPec

In order to meet our client’s handover deadline, we adapted and changed specifications to enable works to continue through the winter months.

The resin flooring was initially specified as Altro Screed™ 5mm Rapicure epoxy screed, however, due to the curing times of epoxy systems, we were unable to cut the installation to less than one week per area.

We therefore introduced Flowcrete’s Flowfast Quartz – structure and classic as a solution to the client, which cut installation times by half due to its fast curing capabilities and ability to be installed at a range of temperature levels.

On the basis of this, we introduced Flowcrete’s Flowfast Quartz – structure and classic as a solution to the client which cut installation times by half due to its fast curing capabilities and ability to be installed at a range of temperature levels.

South Stand

The project consisted of the installation of 2,000m2 of Altro’s decorative quartz screed using the Altro Screed™ 5mm Rapicure slip resistant system, including cove detail to toilets, concessions and the ground floor concourse within the south stand of the stadium.

The Deckshield Rapide ED1 4mm system was exclusively specified for the Level 1 concourse due to its flexible nature and excellent crack-bridging properties – the best fit solution to combat movement cracks within the substrate which were all filled using Flowcrete PHS.

We also set in manholes and outlets followed by the installation of Altro Grip™4.5mm slip resistant variant to shower areas. On completion of installation of all resin flooring systems, we cut and filled all movement joints using Altro Expand™vertical.

Further to this, we installed Isopol SBR polymer screed with a Flowscreed Industrial Top finish for 8 stairwell landings within the south stand.

North Stand

We installed resin for a number of areas within the north stand, totalling 1,700m2, including Flowcrete’s MMA Quartz, Quartz Classic and Flowfast Cove for all toilets, pavilion kitchens, concessions, beer cellars and concourse areas.

We also set in 18 manhole covers, installed drainage, and installed Isopol SBR polymer screed to falls for the shower rooms.

Pavilion Kitchens

The pavilion kitchens were technically more challenging as we had to specify and install a system that was compatible with the existing timber framework. Working closely with Flowcrete, we specified a quartz structure system to be laid onto two layers of marine ply at 90 degree angles and fixed at 100mm centres.

We installed a number of ramps within the pavilion kitchens to ensure a seamless transition was executed between the timber and concrete where floor levels varied.

Testimonial

“The new floor finish for Emerald Headingley Stadium’s North and South stand redevelopment has elevated the quality of the customer experience. The colour complemented the whole interior design and Sky commentators praised how nice the North stand looked at the Eng v Sri Lanka cricket game on 21 June 2019.”
