Scope
MJF was tasked with preparing approximately 480 square meters of existing tiled flooring in the main kitchen and servery areas. Our goal was to install Altrocrete 8mm PU flooring to enhance durability and safety standards. This choice of flooring aimed to improve both aesthetics and functionality, catering to the demanding requirements of these high-traffic and hygiene-sensitive environments
Challenges and solutions
Our primary challenge emerged during the initial stages of the project. Upon commencing the preparation of the tiles using HTC diamond grinders, a significant portion of the tiles began to loosen unexpectedly. Recognising the need for immediate action, it became evident that complete removal of the tiles was imperative. This unforeseen circumstance necessitated the removal of all floor tiles.
Moreover, the removal of tiles resulted in the requirement to restore floor levels by 20 – 25mm to maintain the original datum. Consequently, the installation of industrial cementitious level screed became imperative, adding an additional three days of labour beyond the initial five days dedicated to tile removal.
Addressing these unanticipated challenges demanded a concerted effort from the MJF Team, necessitating a revised and staggered program to mitigate any potential deviation from the client's original project schedule and deadline.

Special Requirements
We prioritised the safety and compliance of our MJF in-house team by ensuring they underwent comprehensive safety training and successfully completed the Vivo Vetting process, which is a mandatory prerequisite for undertaking any work on a Vivo site.
Additionally, we maintained continuous on-site supervision by our in-house SSSTS-certified site supervisors throughout all stages of our operations. This stringent approach underscores our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism in every aspect of our work.
Project Results
- Chemical Resistance: Altrocrete 8mm PU flooring demonstrates excellent resistance to aggressive chemicals, ensuring long-term durability.
- Food Safety: With minimal risk of tainting food stored nearby, the material meets stringent food safety standards.
- Curing Process: Following installation, the flooring was allowed to cure for 24 hours at a temperature of 20°C, optimizing its performance.
- Slip Resistance: The flooring boasts a profiled surface, providing low potential for slip accidents, thus enhancing safety measures.
- Hygiene Compliance: Compliance with the European Directive on the Hygiene of Food Stuffs (93/43/EEC) ensures adherence to hygiene standards vital for food preparation environments.
- Cleanability: Easy cleanability facilitates maintenance, ensuring hygienic conditions are maintained effortlessly.
- Steam Cleaning: Resilience to steam cleaning, particularly when installed at 8mm thickness, further solidifies its suitability for rigorous cleaning regimes.
- Impervious and Seamless: The flooring's impervious and seamless nature enhances hygiene, preventing the accumulation of dirt and bacteria.
